Yo Soy was started because of three things:
Students need 21st Century Skills.
Education needs to be done in a safe and stimulating environment.
Teachers shouldn't have to pay for these services.
Seven years ago I began planning a program that would allow students to learn about music using technology. I wanted them to be able to work at their own pace, receive immediate feedback, and be well prepared for college. I also needed to create a program that was teacher-friendly. I had discovered through my research that the students tended to be more computer-savvy than the teachers. I needed a program that could grow with the students and allow them to work on their own since several courses meet in the classroom at the same time. In order to accomplish all of this, I had to do several years of research, work with the students, and interview the teachers to meet everyone’s needs.
Yo Soy has been evolving over the past few years. Today there are over 2500 submissions. Every account, submission, blog post, and WIKI addition are viewed by humans prior to being posted for the world to see. Your students can safely interact with all community members, and you don't have to filter your student's work for school appropriateness. The last part is the big part for me because I rarely have the time to review each of my student's works every morning to make sure that no one wrote anything inappropriate.
