Description

This book contains ALL twelve of Andrew Lang's _Fairy Books of Many Colors_, originally published between 1889 and 1910.  It includes 437 tales from a broad range of cultures. The tales are complemented by over 900 beautiful illustrations.

The stories in this book are English translations of popular folk tales from a variety of cultures. Before written word, mothers would memorize these stories to pass along to their children. These early ancestors believed in the stories; they believed that beasts and trees could talk and behave kindly or unkindly depending on how you treated them. Characters tended to include nameless human heroes and crowds of beasts, birds and fish, all personified to act like humans. As such, the stories are representative of a time when science did not shape our understanding of the world in the way that it does today; it was a time of magic and imagination. The stories were passed along through generations and, with the invention of written language, they were immortalized on paper. The authors of these stories remain unknown.

Now, many years later, this new ebook collection offers new generations of children access to the fantastical realms of these immortal tales. Parents should note that the stories remain unaltered and are in content identical to the original books published. Content is reflective of the cultural beliefs of the time and children may need clarification about certain issues. The stories on the whole, however, are timeless, and this book is held as an important historical milestone in the revival of interest toward fairy tales.

Enjoy!
