Pelléas and Mélisande was the only opera that Claude Debussy completed; it premiered in 1902. The music by Debussy was based on Maurice Maeterlinck's play and enjoyed an immense amount of success. Maeterlinck's play has also influenced many other French composers, including Maurice Ravel. The story follows a love triangle between Prince Golaud, Mélisande and Pelléas.
