The Great Compline is a service celebrated in the Orthodox Church at the end of the day at the eve of certain Great Feasts (i.e. Nativity,Theophany, Annunciation), Tuesday and Thursday of Cheese-Fare Week (the week before Great Lent), and especially during the Great Lent on Monday through Thursday, and Monday and Tuesday of the Great Week. The Great Compline is a penitential office entreating the Lord to forgive us from our numerous sins during the course of the day and to protect us during the coming night.
